Ideas for forming Ruins go back to the year 2000. The actual culmination of Ruins begins sometime throughout 2002. At this point both Alex and Dave rehearse fairly constantly for a few months assembling songs, which are recorded for demo purposes in late 2003. Blacktalon Media (Astriaal, Portal) released this material as the "Atom and Time" mcd in July 2004. This date also corresponded with Blacktalon Media's "Legions - Opening Of The Southern Gate" 2CD compilation which featured the Ruins track "Desolation". Meanwhile Ruins now had enough music to constitute what is their debut full length album. Near the end of 2004 Ruins entered the Red Planet studios and recorded the drum tracks of this album, all other tracking and mixing was done by Joe Haley. This album titled "Spun Forth As Dark Nets" was released by Neurotic Records and mastered by Tue Madsen (Mnemic, Aborted, The Haunted...) The cover-art is the work of Lorenzo Mariani, who has previously worked with Dark Throne and Aborym amongst others. Ruins have done a handful of shows around Australia; playing in Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, and in Canberra for the final 'Metal for the Brain'. And most recently their run of shows in support of SATYRICON has taken them back to Melbourne and Sydney, and also to Adelaide and Brisbane for the first time. They are currently preparing for their final show for this year, at home in Hobart; this and working on their new album... which is as yet untitled... expect the worst! Drum tracks have been completed, some forth-coming song titles include...... 'Where Time is Left Behind', 'Hanged after being Blinded', and 'Cauldron'. Rumour has it that the legendary Rev. Kriss Hades will be working his magic for the album cover-art.
